OVARIAN STIMULATION IN IVF
In each follicular phase, One of antral follicules becomes "dominant"

The aim of the FSH product is to stimulate development of multiple follicles

IVF stimulation protocols generally involve the use of three types of drugs :
>> The following informations are attented to supplement, not substitute the expertise and jugment of your heathcare professional
1 - Drugs to prevent Premature ovulation :
No exhaustive list
the discovery of the amino acid sequence of Gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in 1971, has allowed the use of agonistic and antagonistic analogues in ART.
They reduce the amount of estrogen in the body and prevent the release of eggs from the ovaries (ovulation). (This stops the monthly menstrual hormonal cycle and results in a condition similar to menopause).
These medications are administered by injection - subcutanear or intramuscular injections - Some of them by nasal spray.
Agonistic analogues :
Decapeptyl®, Suprefact®, Enantone® Synarel® Lupron®
Antagonistic analogues :
Cetrotide®, Orgalutran®, Antagon®, Ganirelix®
2 - Drugs to stimulate the ovaries (to produce multiple oocytes):
No exhaustive list
HMG ( purified preparation of Human menopausal gonadotrophines) or FSH/LH association
Humegon® Ménopur® Merional®
Repronex® Fertinex® Fertinorm®...
Purified FSH (highly-purified Follicule stimulating hormon)
Fostimon® Metrodin-HP® Bravelle®
Recombinant human FSH ou r-hFSH
Gonal-F® Puregon® Follistim® ...
Recombinant human LH ou r-hLH
Sometimes used with r-hFSH
Luveris®
Association of r-hFSH and r-hLH
Pergoveris®
(r-hFSH 150IU and r-hLH 75IU) is a new and unique therapeutic option for infertility in women due to severe gonadotropin deficiency. Pergoveris is a combination of follitropin alfa (r-hFSH) and lutropin alfa (r-hLH). It enables patients to benefit for the first time from two consistent and pure recombinant gonadotropins combined in a single vial.
3 - Drugs to trigger ovulation
No exhaustive list
Natural HCG (using LH activity for triggering ovulation)
- HCG endo 1500®, HCG endo 5000® (Fr) Pregnyl® (US)
- Choriomon® -
Profasi-HP®
- Chorex® : Hyrex pharmaceuticals US
- Novarel® ...
Recombinant HCG
Ovitrelle® Ovidrel® ...

4 - Main protocols
Another personnalized protocols with different pre-treatments exist too
Short Protocol "flare-up agonist"
Short Protocol "antagonist"
Long Protocol "follicular-agonist"
Long Protocol 'luteal-agonist"
For all protocols, once the FSH injections have begun, blood and ultrasound testing is done about every 1-3 days to monitor the development of the follicles untill woman's follicles are mature

34-36 H. after HCG injection, an egg harvest is performed to remove the follicular fluids wich contents oocytes.
Embryos transfer can occur at Day 2-3 after oocytes retrivial and Blastocysts transfer at Day 5-6 after.
Pregnancy test : Day 12-13 after oocytes harvest.
5 - Drugs to assist development of the uterine lining
No exhaustive list
Progesterone is administered after transfert to help sustain the uterine lining (endometrium).
